Boxes was our first ambitious project dating back to 2020. In this game, players were tasked with opening boxes to receive random weapons to level up in the world and defeat any foes along the way.

With Boxes being our first project ever, we decided to use pre-made assets found on the roblox catalog that many users were familiar with. This was done as a budget decision and gameplay decision.

After failing to complete Boxes due to burnout in our juvenile development years, we decided to move our focus to remaking the beloved roblox classic horror game “Darkness 2”. A monster vs players game that utilizes light as a strong gameplay mechanic.

This project dates back to 2021 as our first horror project. We started developing with more advanced concepts such as AI pathfinding. Along with new ways to utilize light as a horror mechanic.

Similar to boxes, we abandoned the project due to burnout. However, in late 2023 we returned to this project to update its graphics and install our fps system. This is still a work in progress.

After nearly 2 years of various small roblox projects, 4GEAR begins its most advanced and ambitious project to date. Ground Zero is 4GEAR’s attempt at creating Roblox’s most immersive FPS experience. Features such as a campaign, multiplayer, and battle royale were actively worked on to match the content of a series similar to Call of Duty.

In the campaign mode, 4GEAR attempted to innovate cutscenes and storytelling within Roblox so we dove into camerawork, advanced interface designs, and voice acting. (This gif quality does not do the scene justice)

4GEAR featured impressive exteriors and interiors decorated with the newly established surface appearance that enables PBR use.

4GEAR approached the battle royale mode by grabbing 3D data from google maps to help reference our lead map builder in creating a diverse 2400x2400 stud map. Due to budget constraints, we were only able to create a small portion of the map that can be seen in the previous screenshot.

Unfortunately, Ground Zero was far too expensive to keep developing without any investors. So, in late 2023, to fuel our financial needs to continue Ground Zero, 4GEAR decided to make a full circle and remake our first project, Boxes, as a completely refreshed title: Lucky Battlers. This is our first ever published game.

Similar to Boxes, the game uses classic roblox assets that players will be familiar to. These weapons can be achieved through the player’s luck at opening a lucky block that are collected by killing nearby foes and mini-bosses. Each zone have different enemy types, with different attacks and counters. Different lucky blocks will possess different rarities along with super rare features that only item enchantments can unlock.

Regarding UI, this was our most GUI intensive experience yet. Everything from shops, inventory, trading, microtransaction shop, quests, gifts, sell frames, and much more are all present with an emphasis on quality!

4GEAR also added rare events to add another a surprise to undeserving players. These events are usually silly filled with complete animations, sound design, and humor.

4GEAR faced another roadblock; we understood that our first title, Lucky Battlers, wasn’t going anywhere due to the core gameplay lacking any sort of retention. So we shifted to a kid themed simulator genre that allowed us to understand live-service games much better. On April 21, 2024, 4GEAR published Money Spread Simulator. This was our first real successful game that amassed 200K visits in just over a month.

The core gameplay of MSS is to spread money against other rich bosses that are present in every world. Players would click to spread more money, spanning across several animations to give a sense of flamboyancy. If the green bar reaches all the way to the left, the player wins. Each spread battle gives the player wins as a currency to spend on new worlds.

MSS took heavy inspiration from Arm Wrestle Simulator. 4GEAR developed new mechanics such as a pet system that assisted players in receiving more currency. The more the player leveled up, the more “aura” (the black vfx) the player had, giving visual feedback for the player to crave for. All of this came down to help the player flaunt their wealth to various bosses located in each world.

Along with the pet system was an egg hatch system that gave players a whole new layer of gameplay to collect new and humorous floating heads.
